Arequipa has plenty to offer for people seeking adventure type experiences. By far the
biggest draw is of course the worlds second deepest canyon, the Colca Canyon and it's many
condors. Which attracts
thousands of travellers every year that enjoy it's beauty and it's might either independently or
via Bus or trekking tours.
But the Colca Canyon is
just the tip of the Iceberg. Arequipa is probably the second best place in Peru to do White
Water Rafting offering trips ranging from a couple of hours in easy water to 9 to 12 day expeditions
with numerous Class IV and V rapids. The surrounding of Arequipa as well offers some very good Climbing
including the famous Volcan Misti and Mt Chachani - one of the easiest
6000m peaks in the world - as well as many other nearby mountains. A very special tour
for Geography Buffs can be made to the Lagoon that is, accorging to National Geographic the source of the
Amazonas river and is located near the Colca Canyon.
There are Mountain Bike Tours for Bike enthusiasts like going Downhill El Misti or Chachani
or as well more cross country style
tours. There are plenty of Horseback Tours on offer in the surrounding countryside.
There are as well tours on offer to other less frequently visited places like Cotahuasi Canyon
- actually the deepest known Canyon in the world, beating the Colca Canyon by 200 meters - or
La valle de los Volcanoes.
